Add a New Varietal to Jarvis Offerings!

Dear Wine Friends,
We are excited to announce the first release of the Tempranillo variety! It is by far the leading wine in Spain but less common in this country. The name Tempranillo comes from the Spanish word “temprano” meaning early. Add the “illo” and it becomes “a little early”. True to its name, this is the earliest of our red grapes to ripen. When the birds begin feasting on the Tempranillo, we know it is time to do the netting on all our vineyards, and quickly before the Tempranillo is all gone!

We planted only one acre of Tempranillo because that is what was desired by Dimitri Tchelistcheff our long time Winery Consultant. Whenever we think about Tempranillo, our first thoughts are for Dimitri; those are his special grapes! I also like what Ted Henry, our Winemaker, has made from these grapes. The wine is quite youthful and fruity but still has that solid body reminiscent of the sturdy Spanish plains where it originated.
An important reason for adding this new variety was to add more wine experience for our Wine Club and Inner Circle Members. And, when you experience a new wine variety you want to know you are tasting the very finest representation of this grape variety; that way you can know for sure how much you like that variety. That can be said about all the wine varieties we offer. They let you know how each variety  tastes at its best.
Our six varieties now include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo and Chardonnay.

Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2003
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Our winemakers Dimitri Tchelistcheff and Ted Henry  designate a wine as Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon only when they feel it is extraordinary. The previous two Reserves were 1997 and 2001. This 2003 Reserve vintage is a wine of amazing finesse and grace. With a deep amethyst hue and a bouquet of clove and cherries, it is sure to intrigue you. Flavors of deep red berries are ample, and 25 months in new French Haute Futaie oak barrels adds nuances of toasty vanilla to tempt you even more. With over 4 years of bottle aging it is as smooth as silk. Ready to be enjoyed now, this wine will also continue to cellar well until 2015. 96 Points from the Beverage Testing Institute.

Tempranillo 2007
Our Tempranillo wine is in honor of Dimitri Tchelistcheff. Dimitri is our long time mentor and valued contributor to our winemaking. He has a special feeling for Tempranillo and thought it would do well here. He suggested planting just an acre to compliment our other wines. Its very name means “early” from the Spanish word “temprano”. It is our first red variety
to harvest each year. 92 Points from the Beverage Testing Institute.
Half Bottle (375ml) $29   Reduced from $55

Lake William 2005
Lake William wins Best of Class & Judges’ Choice Award in the Bordeaux Blend category at the largest competition ever for American Wines!
William Jarvis made the mistake of his life in 1993 during midnight pump-overs when he accidentally pumped a third of a tank of Cabernet Franc into a tank of Cabernet Sauvignon. The experience was devastating, but after the fermentation completed the winemaker, Dimitri Tchelistcheff, said “This new “Bordeaux blend” turned out “not that bad.” In fact, it kept getting better with age! It was enjoyed so much in the tasting room it became a sold-out product, and this blend has been made every year since. The grapes in the blend come from those vineyards cooled by the breezes off Lake William, hence the name. 95 Points from the Beverage Testing Institute.
Full Bottle (750ml) $105   Reduced from $115
Half Bottle (375ml), Magnum (1.5L), Double Magnum (3L) and Imperial (6L) bottles are available.
