Winemaker Ted Henry followed the innovation of consultant Dimitri Tchelistcheff in using only wine from the top-half of the barrels to create this lush, single-vineyard wine. This unique winemaking technique allows us to produce this wine unfined and unfiltered, offering a golden color and true varietal essence for our most full-bodied Chardonnay. Grapes from the Finch Hollow Vineyard are intensely flavored, with a distinct tropical fruit character. Barrel fermentation in new French oak barrels, softens the wine and creates a supple mouthfeel with a hint of bright fruit. The rich mouth filling flavors of this opulent Chardonnay linger throughout its long finish.
2010 Unfiltered Finch Hollow Chardonnay
96 Points. Editor's Choice. Wine Enthusiast. Astonishingly rich, this is everything you want a Chardonnay to be. It’s fantastically concentrated in pineapple, guava, green apple, pear and lime fruits; it’s creamy and suave in lees influence; and it’s brisk in acidity, despite undergoing malolactic fermentation. The texture is honeyed, with a perfect touch of smoky, new French oak. The estate grapes come from the winery’s vineyard high up in the Vaca Mountains, east of the Silverado Trail. - S.
