Wine can be Fun! Inner Circle and Wine Club
2009-03-01

Our Jarvis Wine Clubs are based on the notion that "Wine can be Fun". So, especially now, our wine provides the means to hang on to some "fun" in life!
The original Jarvis club is the Inner Circle where members choose their wine selections, either from the winery or from their local shops, and when $1000 of wine is purchased the membership begins. Our newer Wine Club is where we at the winery come up with fun selections for three annual shipments equaling about $1000 worth of wine per year, the benefits begin as soon as you enroll.

So how does the fun come in? When you sip some of the finest wine made, you can put the busy world out of your mind and take satisfaction in pampering yourself and your companions. By concentrating on the wine you can develop confidence in your own taste. For example, which varietal – or grape - do you prefer? And to be sure it is the true varietal you are tasting, each Jarvis varietal or grape is brought to its ultimate perfection in the winery.
Then you can honestly compare one varietal with another. Also, if some wine you taste has been blended with other varietals (as are the vast majority of available wines) then you will never know your preference.
How many people don't like a particular varietal because they at first tasted a lesser version? Daily we have visitors at the winery who comment "I never before cared for Chardonnay" or "I never knew how good Merlot could be".
The Jarvis Wine Club gives you the opportunity to enjoy many great varietals including the King of Wine -Cabernet Sauvignon (ours is unblended and that is rare!), the Queen of Wines - Chardonnay , Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Tempranillo. The latter two wines are relatively unknown varietals, so they are typically supplied as half bottles to be explored by our Wine Club Members. And, of course, we also include from time to time our very popular Lake William blend. This is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon blend that includes Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Lake William started off as a mistake by yours truly but now is a widely sought after wine.

The Wine Club uses another novelty to make wine more fun. Often when sending a full bottle of wine we also include a half bottle of that same wine. You can taste the half bottle and then decide on your appropriate use for the whole bottle.
I recently learned that some Wine Club members are doing blind tasting between the half bottle and the full bottle. Both bottles have the same size cork so theoretically the half bottle will age faster. It is a perfect way to calibrate your taste to aged wines!
Speaking of aged wines, rather than just ship new releases which is a common practice in the industry, Jarvis ships Library wine perfectly aged and ready to drink now; it doesn't have to be laid away!

Best wishes for some extra "Fun" in the New Year,
