Cabernet Jarvis, A Big Hit!!! 1997-07-01
The JARVIS Inner Circle members who attended the Zarzuela Ball praised the delightful musical, "Cabernet Jarvís." It helped make for a knock-out evening and provided a delightful introduction to the Zarzuela art form, a specialty of the Jarvis Conservatory. It also poked fun at the Jarvis Cabernet Sauvignon.
Originally the musical production was to be presented in the Festival Chamber of the winery cave, but as the production became more and more professional it was decided to do it under the ideal acoustic and lighting conditions of the Jarvis Conservatory a few miles across town from the winery. So a short bus ride back and forth served also to introduce the Inner Circle Members to the Jarvis Music Conservatory established in a 100 year old stone winery building in downtown Napa.
To recapture the beauty of this evening and for those of you who could not attend the Zarzuela Ball a professional video of the production is available at the cost of $20. This video rivals the best music comedy video found in video stores and should make excellent gifts to wine and music lovers. For the 90% plus of you who have never seen a Zarzuela it provides a dashing example of the "Genero Chico" (small opera) version. It is about one hour running time. By the way, if you get interested in the Zarzuela art form, the Jarvis Conservatory is doing a full length "Genero Grande" Zarzuela June 13,14, & 15 of this year. For those of you who receive "Artscan" on your satellite TV, excerpts of the Jarvis Conservatory productions of Zarzuelas as well as their productions of a Baroque Dance are being broadcast regularly over the entire Western Hemisphere. Full length features are also being repeated by the Public Broadcasting Station in Santa Rosa Channel 22 and other regional stations.
